How the Justice for Wales & CPRW Legal Funds Work

This FAQ explains how donations to support the Green GEN Cymru High Court legal action are managed. It applies to all groups working with Justice for Wales, CPRW, and New South Law.

What is the legal action about?

Over 300 farmers and landowners have launched a joint High Court legal challenge against Green GEN Cymru. The case argues that Green GEN’s conduct — including access to private land without consent — breaches legal, environmental, and human-rights protections. The outcome will affect all three proposed transmission lines:- Towy–Usk- Towy–Teifi- Vyrnwy–Frankton.

Who are the claimants?

The claimants are Natalie Barstow, CPRW (The Welsh Countryside Charity), and Justice for Wales. CPRW is a registered charity and is registered with the Fundraising Regulator.

They act jointly and are legally represented by New South Law, and an assembled team of legal experts.

How are donations managed and safeguarded?

All money raised — via CPRW or CrowdJustice — goes directly to New South Law for this legal case only.

Funds are ring-fenced and cannot be used for any other purpose.

What are the official donation routes?

There are two secure ways to give:

CPRW Legal Fund – best for larger or organisational donations.

Funds go into the CPRW restricted funds account and then directly into New South Law’s client account. CPRW route is VAT-efficient and charity-regulated.

Bank transfer or cheque accepted.

CPRW Bank Detail for Restricted account

Account Name: CPRW Sort Code: 30-94-99

Account Number: 29455868

Please reference with your postal code or nearest town name please.

Crowd Justice: Justice for Wales – best for public or individual donations.

Funds raised by Crowd Justice go directly to New South Law.

Both routes fund the same legal action.

Can Gift Aid be claimed?

Yes — only on donations made via CPRW, because CPRW is a registered charity.Gift Aid cannot be claimed through CrowdJustice.

Are corporate donations tax-deductible?

Only those made directly to CPRW may be eligible for Corporation Tax deduction. CrowdJustice donations are not tax-deductible.

Can donors ask for a refund?

• CrowdJustice pledges are automatically refunded only if the campaign fails to reach its initial target before launch. Once a campaign has gone live and achieves its target, funds are transferred to New South Law and donations cannot be withdrawn.

All other donations (including those made directly to CPRW or via bank transfer) are non-refundable, as they are restricted to this specific legal action.

What happens if there are surplus or “excess” funds?

It is highly unlikely that there will be surplus funds. Costs are closely monitored and fundraising targets adjusted to reflect actual expenditure as the case progresses. If, at the conclusion of the action, there is a small remaining balance, all partner groups and donors will be consulted before any decision is made.Potential options include:

- Retaining the balance with CPRW to support future public-interest environmental legal work; or

- Transferring it to Justice for Wales to continue community legal-defence efforts in Wales.

How will the final legal bill be shared?

The case covers all three Green GEN line corridors.

The intention is that final costs will be shared equally between:

  1. Towy–Usk

  2. Towy–Teifi

  3. Vyrnwy–Frankton

So far, the legal costs have been mostly covered by the Edw Valley (Radnorshire) and Llandovery (Carmarthenshire) communities.

It’s important for more regions to contribute, as the costs of this case affect everyone along all three proposals.

How should local groups promote the appeal?

Communities across rural Wales are standing together for fairness, safety, and respect. Over 300 farmers and landowners have launched High Court legal action against Green GEN Cymru, challenging what we believe to be unlawful access to private land, intimidation, and disregard for biosecurity. Donations can be made in two ways:

• CPRW (Gift Aid available) – for larger or organisational contributions

• Crowd Justice: Justice for Wales – for individual or public donations

Every penny supports the same legal action.Together we are stronger, please support this community-led fight for justice.
